BFF

Kami played another great softball game last night. Her pitching has been on fire lately and so has her hitting. Her wonderful father just bought her a new 31 inch Easton bat from Big 5 Sporting Goods…and she hit some nice line drives into the outfield with it. We intended on buying this other bat that was on sale for $40, but Kami liked this one better because it was lighter….and unfortunately, it was $70. But, I ignored my cheap tendencies and decided to get it anyway. Kami works really hard at softball and puts in extra practice at home to improve her game, so she deserved it. Fortunately, the softball gods were with me. When the cashier rang it up, it turned out the bat was actually on sale!

Back to the game. In the top of the last inning, Kami displayed some aggressive base running, trying to score from second base on a base hit. It was a close play at the plate, but the umpire called her out. I think the ump's name was Helen, as in Helen Keller, but I could be wrong. In my unbiased opinion, she appeared to touch home plate and was tagged high (in the head). To make matters worse, she crashed hard into the ground, hurting her back and legs. We're happy to report she recovered fine. All it took was a warm bath, some ice, a heating pad...and a visit from Paisley. Paisley knew something was wrong when Kami got home and was pacing back and forth downstairs while Kami was upstairs. I finally called Paisley upstairs so she could spend some time with her BFF...and she ran into Kami's room and immediately jumped into her bed. I happened to have my mobile phone in my hand, so I snapped a quick photo. Not the greatest technical quality, but I was pleased to have captured the special moment.

  1. Wayne,

Great photo and story of BFF's. Paisley's love and face to face connection with Kami is priceless. Glad to hear Kami is okay after her intense play.

My sis and her husband are on their way to the NCAA Softball Championships in Oklahoma this weekend. My sis played softball throughout her youth, college, and into adulthood. I, on the other hand, was a great cheerleader for her but not so great a player. :)

Maybe one day they will be watching Kami in the NCAA championships, with you on the sidelines as the photographer, calling out the "Helen Keller" umpires. :)
